What a Surf + Stay Week in Costa Rica Looks Like

A Surf + Stay week is what happens when you stop cramming a surf trip into the gaps of a holiday. You stay in one house, surf with the same coaches every day, and let the tide decide the schedule. Here is how the week runs.

Two ways to do the week

  • Essentials Stay

Six nights at The Baya House. Surf coaching, an ATV adventure day, two yoga classes, video review, daily Costa Rican breakfast, and evenings free to find your own favourite spot to eat.

  • Signature Stay

Seven nights, more of everything — more surfs, more yoga, chef dinners, video reviews, drone footage, and either a boat day or an ATV run depending on the trip.

Where you stay

The Baya House: studios and apartments set back in the jungle, a pool in the middle, and a short run to the beach. Howler monkeys are the alarm clock and nobody has ever needed one instead.

Rooms range from studios to the 1-bedroom Pina apartment, so you can come solo, as a couple, or with a friend and still have your own space.

Small groups, on purpose

We cap every week at ten people. That is not a marketing number — it is the point at which a coach can still watch every wave you take and the group still feels like a group rather than a tour.

Weeks are hosted by Sarah and Isaac. Isaac grew up surfing this coast and runs the water sessions; Sarah leads beachfront yoga and holds the week together on land.

The rhythm of the week

Mornings are for surfing, when the wind is usually kindest. Middays are slow — the pool, the tide pools, the fish market, a run out to Montezuma. Evenings are sunset, a movement class, football on the sand, and dinner somewhere with your feet in the dirt.

We move with the tide, so no two days land the same way. That is the best part of the week, not a caveat.

Who comes

Complete beginners, intermediates trying to get off the whitewater for good, solo travellers who would rather not arrive alone, and pairs of friends who want the whole week handled. We coach around whoever is in the group.

Frequently asked

Do I need surf experience to join?
